The Eden Leisure Foundation, together with the InterContinental Malta, presents €10,000 Donation to Nature Trust Malta in Support of Wied Harq Ħamiem Restoration

The Eden Leisure Foundation, together with the InterContinental Malta, presented a €10,000 donation to Nature Trust Malta as part of their ongoing collaboration to support the rehabilitation of Wied Ħarq Ħamiem, one of Malta’s last remaining freshwater ecosystems and a designated ‘Special Area of Conservation’.

The cheque presentation took place on-site at the valley, bringing together representatives from Nature Trust FEE Malta, the Eden Leisure Foundation and InterContinental Malta. The symbolic handover highlights a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and the protection of Malta’s natural heritage.

This €10,000 contribution was raised through an ongoing restaurant donation initiative, which redirects a €1 discretionary donation from each transaction of InterContinental Malta’s restaurants toward environmental and community projects.

Kate de Cesare, Chairperson of the Eden Leisure Foundation, said, “Through this collaboration, we are proud to support Nature Trust FEE Malta in their essential work of protecting and restoring Wied Ħarq Ħamiem. We have a shared long-term vision to reinstate the valley back to its optimal, natural state”.

As a sanctuary for native flora and fauna, Wied Ħarq Ħamiem represents a vital part of Malta’s biodiversity and an important green lung in the north of the island. The funds will contribute to Nature Trust’s ongoing work in the valley, which includes habitat restoration, species conservation, educational outreach, and ecosystem monitoring.

“We deeply value the partnership with Eden Leisure Foundation and InterContinental Malta,” said Steven Calascione, Nature Trust’s site manager at Wied Harq il-Hammiem. “This kind of corporate support allows us to continue vital restoration works while also raising awareness about the importance of preserving our natural environments.”

Nature Trust President, Vincent Attard, stated, “We are proud to bring our expertise and experience to deliver impactful, sustainable solutions to complex and challenging restoration projects such as Wied Ħarq Ħammiem. We also thoroughly appreciate the great corporate support of Eden Leisure Foundation towards our mission to safeguard the Maltese Islands’ Natural Heritage. Such CSR initiatives are highly commendable.”

This initiative is part of a broader ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) commitment by the Eden Leisure Group, the founding company for Eden Leisure Foundation, to foster sustainable development and support the Maltese community through targeted charitable giving.
