Restored Grand Master’s Carriage Inaugurated at Palace with Support from Eden Leisure Foundation

The Eden Leisure Foundation is proud to announce the successful inauguration of the restored Grand Master’s Carriage, an 18th-century French Berline coach housed in the historic Grand Master’s Palace in Valletta.

This significant conservation initiative, led by Heritage Malta, is part of a larger, ambitious restoration project aimed at preserving both the architectural integrity and treasured artefacts of the Grand Master’s Palace. The Eden Leisure Foundation contributed €118,000 to fully fund the meticulous restoration of the Grand Master’s Carriage, reaffirming its commitment to protecting Malta’s cultural heritage.

The inauguration ceremony took place within the Palace and was attended by several distinguished guests, including:

  • Hon. Owen Bonnici, Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government
  • Kate De Cesare, Chairperson, Eden Leisure Foundation
  • Noel Zammit, CEO, Heritage Malta
  • Ian De Cesare, Chairman, Eden Leisure Group
  • Simon De Cesare, CEO, Eden Leisure Group
  • Mr Kevin Mahoney, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government
  • and other esteemed guests and members of the cultural and heritage sectors.

In her remarks, Kate De Cesare emphasised the importance of preserving Malta’s historical treasures:  “The project has been entirely funded by the Eden Leisure Foundation at a cost of €118,000—a significant investment, but one we believe is more than worthwhile. Because this isn’t just about restoring wood and velvet. It’s about restoring pride, identity and a piece of history that now stands as a gift to all Maltese people and to every visitor who wishes to understand the soul of our islands.”

The restored carriage, an exquisite example of 18th-century craftsmanship, now stands proudly as a centrepiece in the Palace’s exhibition spaces, offering visitors a unique glimpse into Malta’s noble history.

This project underscores the Eden Leisure Foundation’s broader mission to support initiatives that safeguard Malta’s cultural, environmental, and historical assets. Thisensures that future generations can continue to connect with and appreciate the island’s rich heritage.
