The restoration and conservation of Wied Ħarq Ħamiem continues to gain momentum through the ongoing collaboration between the Eden Leisure Foundation and InterContinental Malta, who recently presented a cheque of over €9,000 to Nature Trust FEE Malta.

This latest contribution builds on a longstanding partnership focused on safeguarding one of Malta’s last remaining freshwater ecosystems, now designated as a Special Area of Conservation. Over the years, support has extended beyond financial donations to include voluntary participation and continued environmental advocacy, reflecting a shared commitment to long term conservation efforts.
“We remain committed to doing all that we can to preserve Malta’s natural heritage. In the long run, we hope to see the valley fully restored to its natural state,” said Kate de Cesare, Chairperson of the Eden Leisure Foundation.

The cheque presentation took place at Wied Ħarq Ħamiem in the presence of representatives from the Eden Leisure Foundation, InterContinental Malta and Nature Trust FEE Malta. The funds were raised through an ongoing restaurant donation initiative at InterContinental Malta, where guests are invited to contribute a discretionary €1 donation as part of their dining experience. Proceeds are channelled towards environmental and community projects.
“Long-term partnerships are essential for meaningful conservation work. That’s why the ongoing support from the Eden Leisure Foundation and InterContinental Malta is deeply appreciated because it allows us to continue restoring and safeguarding Wied Ħarq Ħamiem,” said Steven Calascione, Nature Trust’s site manager.

As a sanctuary for native flora and fauna, Wied Ħarq Ħamiem plays a crucial role in Malta’s biodiversity and serves as an important green space in the northern region of the island. The funds will contribute towards Nature Trust Malta’s continued work in habitat restoration, species conservation, educational outreach and ecosystem monitoring within the valley.
This initiative forms part of the wider Environmental, Social and Governance commitment of Eden Leisure Group, the founding organisation behind the Eden Leisure Foundation, which aims to foster sustainable development while supporting Malta’s
environment and local communities through meaningful partnerships and targeted charitable giving.
