Inspiring the Next Generation: Junior Ranger Programme Launches in Malta

Children across Malta now have the opportunity to step into the role of a ranger, exploring nature while learning how to protect it, through the launch of the Malta Ranger Unit’s new Junior Ranger Programme, supported by the Eden Leisure Foundation and InterContinental Malta.

The year-long programme is designed for children aged 6 to 10 years and offers a hands-on, educational experience focused on environmental awareness, conservation, and responsibility. Through a series of interactive sessions, participants will explore Malta’s natural environment, learn how to protect it, and gain a better understanding of the wider network involved in environmental enforcement.

The initiative has been made possible through a €8,000 contribution from the Eden Leisure Foundation, with funds generated through InterContinental Malta’s restaurant scheme. This support has played a key role in bringing the programme to life and ensuring its accessibility to young participants.

A spokesperson from the Malta Rangers’ Unit stated, “Introducing a Junior Ranger Program will result in a more aware generation, the one we are safeguarding nature for. The MRU is very grateful for the support given to enable us to kick-start this new chapter.”

Eden Leisure Foundation chairperson, Kate de Cesare, added, “This project perfectly reflects the Foundation’s commitment to creating positive, lasting impact within our community. By helping children connect with and protect Malta’s natural environment, we are investing in a more aware and responsible future generation.”

By combining education with practical engagement, the Junior Ranger Programme, supported by the Eden Leisure Foundation, aims to foster a sense of responsibility and respect for nature from an early age, helping to build a generation that is more aware of the importance of protecting Malta’s natural environment.
